With Saudi Arabia’s booming economy and rapid urban expansion in cities like Riyadh and Jeddah, relocating from Dubai to the Kingdom is among the busiest moving routes in the GCC.
Whether you are transferring for a corporate role or moving your family for a new lifestyle, the first question on your mind is usually the same: “How much is this going to cost?”
Unlike a local move down Sheikh Zayed Road, crossing the Saudi border involves international road freight, complex customs regulations, and long transit times. Because of this, there is no one-size-fits-all price.
At Chevron Sea Shipping, we manage cross-border GCC relocations every week. To help you budget effectively, here is a breakdown of the four main factors determining the cost of moving from the UAE to Saudi Arabia.
1. Volume: Are You LTL or FTL?
The single biggest factor in your moving cost is how much space your belongings take up in the truck.
- FTL (Full Truck Load): If you are moving a 3-to-4 bedroom villa, you will likely need an exclusive 3-ton, 7-ton, or 10-ton truck. You pay for the entire vehicle, and it drives straight from your Dubai home to your new house in Saudi Arabia without stopping to load other cargo.
- LTL (Less than Truck Load): If you’re moving just a 1-bedroom apartment or a few pieces of furniture and boxes, you don’t have to rent a whole truck. We consolidate your belongings with other clients heading to KSA. You only pay for the exact volume (CBM) you use. This is much cheaper, though it may add a few days to the transit time.
2. Customs, Taxes and Border Fees
You need more than just a passport to cross the Al Batha border.
- Customs Duties: Saudi customs are very strict. While used personal household goods are generally exempt from standard customs duties if you have a valid Iqama (residency permit) and employment contract, you must be careful with brand-new items. If customs finds new furniture in original packaging, they will apply standard import taxes.
- Clearance Fees: Your quote should include the cost of customs clearance agents at the border. Attempting to clear a truckload of household goods without a professional broker will result in your truck being held at the border for days.
- Taxes: Don’t forget to consider VAT regulations and the documentation fees for exporting from the UAE and importing into the KSA.
3. The Level of Packing and Crating
The highway from Dubai to Riyadh is long, and the roads can be rough at times.
Standard moving boxes are fine for a local move, but for a 1,000+ kilometre international road trip, your goods need export-level packing.
- The fragility of your items will influence your quote. If you have large flat-screen televisions, glass dining tables, or fragile art, we have to build custom wooden crates to protect them.
- The extra materials and labour for export crating will add a little to the upfront cost, but it saves you thousands of dirhams in breakages.
4. Door-to-Door vs. Door-to-Border
Always read the fine print of a cheap moving quote.
- The Trap: Some budget movers offer a “Door-to-Border” or “Door-to-City” service. They will drive your goods to Riyadh, but you are responsible for paying the local customs taxes, hiring a local crew to unload the truck, and unpacking the boxes yourself.
- The Chevron Solution (Door-to-Door): We provide a comprehensive, all-inclusive quote. We pack your Dubai home, handle border clearance, pay the transport fees, and have our destination partners in Saudi Arabia unload, unpack, and reassemble your furniture in your new home. There are zero hidden fees.

The only way to know the exact cost of your move is to have a professional assess your inventory. Do not rely on “guesstimates” over the phone from unverified movers.
