Living in Dubai Marina is a dream. Moving in (or out) of it? That can be a challenge.

With its stunning skyline, waterfront views, and vibrant lifestyle, Dubai Marina is one of the most popular places to live in the UAE. But let’s be honest: moving furniture into a 50th-floor apartment in a busy district involves more than just lifting boxes.

Between the service elevators, the security permits, and the infamous Marina traffic, you need a solid plan.

At Chevron Sea Shipping, we move clients in and out of Marina Towers every single week. We know the drill. Here is your survival guide to a smooth move in Dubai’s busiest neighbourhood.

1. The Golden Rule: Book the Service Elevator

This is the #1 mistake people make.

  • The Reality: Most Marina towers do not allow moving during peak hours (e.g., 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM or 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM). They also strictly forbid using the main passenger elevators for furniture.
  • The Fix: As soon as you know your moving date, contact your building management to book the Service Lift. It often requires a refundable security deposit. If you don’t book it, our truck might arrive only to be turned away by security.

2. Get Your “Move-In Permit” Sorted

You cannot just show up with a moving truck in Dubai Marina.

  • Requirements: Almost all towers (Emaar, Damac, etc.) require a Move-In/Out Permit.
  • Documents Needed: They usually ask for your Tenancy Contract (Ejari), Passport/Visa copies, and the Mover’s Trade License.
  • Chevron’s Help: We provide you with our Trade License and Insurance documents immediately upon booking so that you can submit them to your building management portal 2-3 days in advance.

3. Parking is Premium

Dubai Marina streets are narrow, and parking is tight.

  • The Challenge: Our moving trucks need a loading bay or a secure spot close to the service entrance.
  • The Fix: Ask security where the “Loading Bay” is. If it’s in the basement, we need to know the height clearance (usually 2.2m to 3.5m). If our standard truck doesn’t fit, we will deploy smaller “shuttle vans” to ferry your goods from the street to the lift. We need to know this during the survey!

4. Timing the Traffic

We all know the Sheikh Zayed Road exit to the Marina can get gridlocked.

  • The Strategy: We typically schedule Marina moves to start early in the morning (around 8:00 or 9:00 AM) after the school run, but before the lunch rush. This ensures our trucks get in and out before the evening traffic builds up.

5. Protect the Apartment (and Your Deposit)

Landlords in Marina are strict about property damage.

  • Floor Protection: At Chevron, we lay down protective runners/sheets in the hallway and inside the apartment to ensure our boots don’t scuff the floors.
  • Wall Protection: We are careful with bulky furniture like sofas and beds around tight corners to prevent scratches on the paintwork. This helps you get your full security deposit back.

6. Declutter Before You Pack

Marina apartments are beautiful, but storage space can be limited.

  • Tip: Don’t move items you haven’t used in a year. Use the move as an excuse to sell old furniture on Dubizzle or donate clothes. A lighter load means a faster, cheaper move.
