Moving house is sweaty work at the best of times. But moving in a Dubai summer? That is an extreme sport.

With temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F) and humidity levels that fog up your glasses instantly, moving between June and September requires serious preparation. It’s not just uncomfortable—it can be dangerous for you, your pets, and your sensitive belongings.

But life doesn’t stop for the weather. At Chevron Sea Shipping, we execute hundreds of moves during the summer months. Here is our survival guide to ensure your summer move doesn’t leave you melting.

1. The Early Bird Strategy

In July, the sun is blazing by 9:00 AM.

  • The Strategy: We strongly recommend starting the move as early as possible—usually around 8:00 AM. This allows our crew to do the heavy loading (the most physically demanding part) before the midday peak heat hits.
  • Midday Break: In compliance with UAE laws regarding outdoor work prohibitions during midday, our crews take necessary breaks during the hottest hours (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM) if working outside. We plan the logistics so that indoor packing happens during these hours.

2. The “AC Handover” Protocol

This is the most critical tip for protecting your furniture.

  • Old Home: Don’t turn off your DEWA (electricity) on moving day! Keep the AC running while we pack. It prevents your staff and our crew from overheating, and it stops your furniture from getting sticky or warped by humidity before it even leaves the house.
  • New Home: Ensure the AC is turned ON in your new place before we arrive. There is nothing worse than unloading heavy boxes into a 45°C stifling apartment.

3. Protect Heat-Sensitive Items

The inside of a moving truck can get hot, even on a short drive.

  • Candles & Crayons: These will melt. Pack them in a cool box and take them in your own air-conditioned car.
  • Vinyl Records & Electronics: Extreme heat can warp vinyl and damage sensitive circuit boards. Transport these personally if possible.
  • Leather: Hot, humid air can make leather sweat. We use breathable wrapping materials to ensure your leather sofas don’t get damaged during transit.

4. Hydration Station

Moving makes you thirsty.

  • For You: Keep a cooler box with cold water, isotonic drinks, and wet towels. Keep this separate from the boxes so it doesn’t get packed by accident!
  • For the Crew: While our teams bring their own water, offering a cold bottle of water to your movers is a gesture of kindness that is always deeply appreciated in the summer heat.

5. Dress for the Occasion

If you are supervising the move, dress smart.

  • Wear loose, breathable cotton or linen clothes.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes (sneakers), not flip-flops. Moving involves heavy boxes, and you need foot protection even if it’s hot.

6. Don’t DIY in July

We admire the DIY spirit, but summer in Dubai is not the time to rent a van and try to move a sofa yourself. The risk of heat exhaustion is real.

  • Let Us Sweat: Our teams are acclimatised, trained, and fit for heavy lifting in these conditions. Save your energy for unpacking in your cool new living room.

Stay Cool, We’ve Got This

Summer moves don’t have to be a nightmare. With a bit of planning and the right team, you can transition to your new home without breaking a sweat (well, maybe just a little).
